AMAPÁ-FRENCH GUYANA GOLD PROVINCE

This province is divided into three belts:

* The Northern belt (Oiapoque or northern Paramacá) that borders French Guyana and the northern coast of Amapá has a N75ºW. bearing. It is 350km in length and includes the gold districts of Uaçá (Brazil), Montagnes françaises, Paul Isnard-Délices, St.Elie, Adieu-Vat, Orapu-Petit Approuague, Comté-Approuague and Courouaie (French Guyana).

* The Central belt (Calçoene or southern Paramacá ), has a bearing N50ºW. It is 400km in length and includes the gold districts of Anotaie-Marupi, Lourenço, Cassiporé, Flexal-Tartarugal, Calçoene-Lumier (Brazilian districts) and Maripassoula, Dorlin, Sophie-Saul and Camopi (French districts).

* The Southern belt has a bearing of N30ºW. and is 350km in length. It includes the Brazilian gold districts of Vila Nova, Maracá, Amaparí, Medio Araguari, Corionutu, Alto Tapuaru and the French gold district of Tampoc, near Suriname.

The gold from the French and Brazilian Guyanas has been known for about two centuries. Access to the Northern belt occurrences is made by road and river. Access to the Central and Southern belts (Brazilian) is made by road but on the french side, access is made by river , by airplane or helicopter. The mineral land claims are presently controlled by several companies and individuals : GOLDEN STAR, HOMESTAKE, WMC, BRGM, ECHO BAY and TVX. The geology of the area is formed by a granite-gneissic complex containing three meta-volcano-sedimentary belts of Archean age that are called the Vila Nova group (Brazil) or Paramaca group (France). calc-alkaline-granite and alkaline rocks intrude the Vila Nova group and Paramaca vulcano-sedimentary belts formations.
